Varun Naidu managed first response priorities and services to the community
Representing the bulk of the
department’s staffing; Patrol Division is the most highly visible component of
the department. It is aimed at executing the law enforcement responsibilities
of the department through preventive patrol and active enforcement of criminal
and traffic laws. It performs a variety of diverse services for the campus
including enforcement, general assistance, emergency assistance, public
information and directions. Overall, Patrol Division provides the general law
enforcement services and assistance to the community.
Being the front line of the
Police Department, Patrol Division personnel account for most of the
interactions between police department and the community. Serving as the Acting
Inspector in Patrol Division of Delta Police Department in 2015, Varun Naidu managed first response
priorities and services to the community.
He also supervised four platoon shifts consisting of
approximately 80 officers.
In his earlier profession, Varun Naidu served in the Patrol
Division where he responded to the calls for services as well as conducted
investigations and problem solving initiatives to address community concerns.
He also had the opportunity to supervise constables and provide guidance and
leadership on all investigative and operational matters.
Being the part of Delta Police
Department, Varun successfully managed to learn various skills as well as
specializations to perform tasks well. These include change management,
leadership, supervisor, investigations, leadership, conflict resolution, report
writing, emergency management, team building as well as court testimony. Apart
from overseeing sworn officers, support staff and volunteers, he managed to
operate an annual budget of 34 million dollars. Being the member of the
management team, Varun worked collaboratively with Delta Police Association and
the Canadian Union of Public Employees.
In 2001, Varun served as the
member of Criminal Investigation Branch where he conducted drug and major case
management. He also served the role of primary investigator and file
coordinator in files including marijuana grow operations, homicides, and other
violent offences.
